As Heart Healthy Month comes to an end, we wanted to share a few tips to get healthy fats into your diet.
But wait, good fats?
There are, in fact, fats that are important for a healthy diet! Unsaturated fats are beneficial in keeping your heart healthy, while saturated and trans fats increase the risk of heart disease.
Foods such as avocados, olives, and salmon are full of good fats, along with corn, soybean, canola, and sunflower oils.
The American Heart association also recommends maintaining a proper sodium intake. A full diet with under 1,500 milligrams of sodium is considered a healthy level. 77% of sodium in our foods comes from processed and prepared foods, so try to cook with natural and unprocessed ingredients to lower sodium levels.
Looking for a way to get good fats in quick? Try Avocado Toast!
Fresh avocado on warm whole wheat toast is an amazing start to the day. Sprinkle a little bit of sea salt (watch those sodium levels though), or add more toppings for a powerhouse breakfast.
Keep that heart healthy!
