Ingredients

  • 1 day-old loaf French bread, cut into cubes
  • 2 cans evaporated milk
  • 4 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 large apples, cored, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp. butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • Jarred caramel sauce (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat a 13x9x2-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl combine bread cubes, evaporated milk and 3/4 cup water. Stir in eggs; mix well. Add apples, raisins, sugar, vanilla and butter; mix well. Stir in pecans, if desired. Pour mixture into baking dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  3. Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until set. Remove from oven and (if desired) drizzle with caramel sauce. Serve warm.
