Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • Hot sauce
  • 6 hamburger buns, split

  1. Season chicken with salt and pepper to taste; place in a large saucepan. Add onion, garlic and enough water to cover.
  2. Add barbecue sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, and hot sauce to taste; bring to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer 15 minutes or until chicken is cooked through (165°F). Transfer chicken to a platter (leave sauce in pan). Shred chicken with two forks.
  3. Meanwhile, bring sauce to boiling and cook until reduced by half, about 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add shredded chicken to sauce and heat through. Spoon chicken and sauce on buns, and serve.
