Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 4 bacon slices, cut up
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (16-oz.) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (16-oz.) can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15-oz.) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 (8-oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped*
  • 1 tbsp. yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. liquid smoke
  • 1 (16-oz.) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained

  1. In a large skillet cook and stir ground beef, bacon and onion over medium-high heat until meat is browned and onion is tender. Drain fat.
  2. In a 4 1/2- to 5-quart slow cooker combine beef mixture, kidney beans, chickpeas, pinto beans, black beans, brown sugar, tomato sauce, jalapeño, mustard, vinegar and liquid smoke. Cover and cook on LOW 5 to 6 hours, stirring once. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.
